"Authentic, really nice molcajete!"
"I was inspired to order one by my mom’s molcajete. She inherited hers from my uncle’s mother in law in 1977. The molcajete was already nicely aged back then. It has to be somewhere close to 70 years old by now. This was a testament to how the hand made Mexican molcajetes can last lifetimes if properly cared for. This once feels solid and nicely built. I can’t wait to learn some recipes and pass this down to my children."

"Authentic, real deal for sure!"
"I decided to purchase this online rather than on a trip to Mexico because it is just too heavy. The purchase was great, packaging was excellent, delivery perfect, item perfect. So far I've made roasted salsa and molcajete guacamole, everything turned out great. Food presentation using the molcajete is really cool also."

Seasoning your molcajete removes grit and impurities while creating a natural seal for easier cleaning. To season it, add about ½ cup of uncooked white rice to the bowl. Using firm pressure, grind the rice across the entire surface until it turns into a rough powder. Discard the powder, rinse, and repeat until the rice remains white with no gray tint.
For extra protection, place a towel under your molcajete to prevent scratching your table or countertop.
Hand wash it in warm water to clean, using a kitchen brush to scrub any food that gets caught in the grooves of the bowl and of the tejolote (pestle). Don't use soap, as the soapy residue will get trapped in grooves, causing bacteria to form. Wipe any excess water off of the surface and let the Molcajete air dry.
Yes! The volcanic stone retains heat exceptionally well, allowing your food to stay warm for longer. This makes it perfect for serving dishes like queso fundido, chorizo or even carne asada. You can also preheat your molcajete by placing it in a warm oven for a few minutes or adding hot water before use. The heat retention enhances flavors and creates an authentic, restaurant-style presentation right at your table.
Yes! Over time, a molcajete develops a natural seasoning as it absorbs the flavors and oils of the ingredients you grind. This enhances the depth and richness of your food, similar to how a cast-iron skillet improves with use. The rough volcanic stone also creates a unique texture that helps release essential oils from herbs and spices, intensifying their natural flavors. As you continue to use your molcajete, your salsas, guacamoles, and spice blends will develop a deeper, more authentic taste that’s impossible to achieve with a blender or food processor.
With proper care, a molcajete can last a lifetime—and even be passed down for generations. Made from solid volcanic stone, it is incredibly durable and resistant to wear. Unlike metal or ceramic kitchen tools that can chip, rust, or break over time, a well-maintained molcajete only improves with age as it absorbs flavors and develops a rich seasoning. To ensure longevity, always clean it with water (no soap), let it air dry completely, and store it in a dry place. If treated well, your molcajete can become a family heirloom, carrying the flavors and traditions of countless meals.
